Go to school. Do well. You'll be fine.

Are you fucking kidding me?! Yeah now I'm in a job which I'm mediocre at, pays somewhat well, but I'll probably be let go soon because I'm to bored and belittled to actually care to do my work.

What the ef is wrong with society today? Honestly, have you thought about what we live in recently. We have to go to school. And not just grade school and high school, but you have to go to college too!.. if you want a decent job. Oh wait, what about those student loans you now have to pay back. Well that sucks, you'll pay those for the next 30 or so years, so that extra money you're going to make won't actually be benefiting you at all.. But hey, you can brag about how sweet you are for making your 60 grand a year.

More? You want more you say. What about this. I bet, if you're reading this I guarantee, that you're/we are not doing what we really want to be doing in life. Presently I'm working as a programmer. Sounds sweet but it's boring, and I'm not a fan. So what am I to do? Throw away 4 years of schooling because I'm bored with what I'm doing? Probs not. So I'll stick it out as long as I can because I have student loans to pay back starting in two months. Oh yeah did I mention my car died this week and I'll have to buy a new one, so that solidifies that fact that I can't quit my job, however they'll probably let me go. Worst part is they'll think that they're so smart and I suck. When really they suck and I'm bored.

I use to be really happy. I did what made me happy, because, I don't know call me crazy, but doing what you want to do seems to be more beneficial than hating everyday. I get that we can't just do what we want all day everyday, but life presently is all about what "other" people want.

For me? I'd love to make a living off of writing music or books. I love doing both. But instead I write code, which very few people read but more people use and have no idea who wrote it and constantly find things to complain about. If it's something people actually like, won't be me getting credit, gotta love companies taking credit. However, when one thing goes wrong (oh no how could I not code for such a common (ahem I mean completely random ass scenario that no one with a brain should even try) task!).

Cheers, enjoy.

Holy shit dude, you sound like one of the 30,000 of us that graduate every year with worthless degrees. At least you found a professional level job, around here all college does is sign you up for the management training at the gas station/factory you happen to work at. And that's if you're lucky.
Do your shitty job by day as well as you can muster, and write at night. It's better than being totally poor, like the rest of us.

Worthless college degrees like chemistry, physics and computer programming? Yes, all the jobs that require science and technical degrees were outsourced decades ago and if you want to be a scientist here, you need a H1-B visa or an L1 visa.
I studies chemistry, physics and computer programming and now I have a job flipping burgers at Bob's Big Boy. The upside is that I meet a lot of cute young girls here.

i hear ya man. it may sound like an easy solution to do what you really want at night or on your spare time or during vacation but there are a lot of other issues that come up when you stick to something that's not really you. you won't meet people that you can hang out with. and chances are the friends you have didn't go to school because they're the types of people that couldn't muster through it because they to want to do arts or music. so while they're stuck making minimum wage, you sort of get alienated. fuck i'm getting old.

the guy that said this sounds like the other 30,000 of us... the other guys i work with love what they're doing. they love doodling on their code as much as i like messing around on the guitar. but they can make a living of what they truly love. bah,

Life is never fair to creative type of people.
I should've known that,.'cuz I'm a creative type myself (am a musician/songwriter, and yes still struggling).

But reading so many quite happy (and they're not even *succesful* like those crappy MTV Top40 music kind of success) musicians/artists, I know that it IS possible,..and we just have to figure out the ways to achieve/do it.
If you create good expressive soulful/heartfelt music, you will get good things.
I believe that..

I guess you really feel sorry for yourself! You poor, poor thing! Well, we can't always have the things we want. Have you ever considered counting your blessings? Do you have a job? - Yes. Can you pay your bills? - Yes. Are you living on the street? - No. Are you cold? - No. Are you hungry? - No. For fucks sake man you're a lot better off than most people in this world!
By anonymous at 15,Nov,10 17:17

Are you happy? - No. Do you like what you do? - No. Do you have any real, REASONABLE options to choose from besides what you're already doing? - Probably not.

Make a standard of living, not just feeling better about yourself when you look down on those who have it worse while you celebrate because you have FRESH water to drink for once! Yayy fresh water! Fuck that.

very true, degrees are worthless, because world has simply too much supply of proffessionals and too little demands for jobs now computer's hadling everything. I'm in college, and that's what awaits me, not very promising, loans and shits, luckily, my family paid off half of my college you know what, screw jobs, I'm starting my own buissiness after my grad!

This guy's got it sorted out. Save as much of that $60k a year you can, live cheap and take time off to pursue your dreams. After that, if you gave it your best shot and failed, at least you tried.
